Imara Kick-off 2026: Together for Clean Water

While it is still 7 a.m. in Mexico, it is already 4 p.m. in Kenya. Austria and Switzerland lie somewhere in between. Three continents, thousands of miles apart – and yet, we ALL come together. Together for clean water.

At the Imara kick-off, what connects us became truly tangible:
We are an international team from Kenya, Mexico, Switzerland, and Austria, united by a shared desire to create sustainable change. We believe in something greater. In a world where clean water is not a privilege.

Everyone who participated in this kick-off is doing so on a voluntary basis.
    Freely. From the heart.
Even on a Sunday, we take the time – because Imara Africa is more than just a project. It is a conviction.

To the question, "Why are you here today?", Patrick answers:

What we have achieved in such a short time fills us with gratitude and pride.
Founded just two months ago, we are now a registered association in Austria. We started with a deficit – because we personally believed in Imara Africa and invested our own money. Our initial goal was simply to close the year 2025 on a positive note.

    But then something wonderful happened:
Through two events in November and our incredible supporters, we were able to surpass our 2025 fundraising goal by 173%.

The greatest gift, however, is something else:
    A team has emerged.
A team that trusts one another. And a community in Kibarani that places its trust in us. We have been accepted – and that is priceless.

    Looking ahead: 2026

We have set ambitious goals for 2026.
One project close to our hearts takes center stage: the construction of a well in Kibarani.
This is intended to provide the community with permanent access to clean drinking water. The fundraising goal for this project is €30,000.

But our work is much more:
Imara Africa works in the WASH sector – Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene.
This means we take a holistic approach, and these areas are also part of our mission:

    • wastewater management
    • hygiene to prevent diseases
    • access to toilets
    • menstrual health for girls and women
    • waste management

    We know:

clean water alone is not enough.

Change happens where solutions are sustainable and developed together with the local community.

    We have big plans.
And we firmly believe that it is possible.

Because together, we can achieve ANYTHING! 💧

  • Bewusstsein schaffen – schon im Klassenzimmer

Building awareness – right from the classroom

In January, I had the pleasure of presenting my talk 'Kenya Through My Own Eyes' at the BGZWN Gymnasium in Wiener Neustadt. Despite it being the very first period of the day, we truly managed to spark the students' enthusiasm.

    Wasserkanister

The students are between 12 and 13 years old. What impressed them most that morning wasn't just my story, but especially the hands-on challenge of lifting a 20-liter jerrycan.

They measured for themselves how long it takes to fill a 20-liter canister: 7 minutes per can. Seven minutes during which, back in the classroom, a significant part of the presentation would have already been missed.

And then came the next realization: how heavy a 20-liter canister truly is—and what it actually feels like to carry it. t makes you wonder: what must it be like for the people in Kibarani, who have to collect water at least five times every single day.

That is exactly what these encounters are about: creating awareness. Showing how grueling daily life becomes when water doesn’t simply come from a tap—and how much water impacts access to education, health, and quality of life.

I deeply value these interactions with students. It's about taking a moment to pause, to think, to ask questions, and to embrace entirely new perspectives together.

We ended the session with a Kahoot quiz, and seeing so many correct answers was incredibly rewarding. It’s proof of how much knowledge is retained when learning becomes a hands-on experience.

And when I receive a message like this from the teacher, I know exactly why I do what I do:

"Hi Sabrina, thank you! I’ve had many guest talks in my classes, but yours was truly outstanding!"

    Barbara

Solche Rückmeldungen bedeuten mir unglaublich viel.
Danke für diese wertvolle Zeit – und dafür, dass wir gemeinsam über Wasser, Verantwortung und unsere Welt nachdenken durften. 💧

    Vortrag Montessori Schule

Today I had the opportunity to give a presentation to 22 teenagers at the Montessori School about IMARA Africa and our work – with a special focus on water, sanitation, and hygiene.

I was thrilled by the many questions from the students and the great energy in the room.

At the end, they even made a donation from their class fund – a truly moving moment! A few days later, I received this wonderful summary written by one of the students!

  • Unsere Imara Africa Events

    Our Imara Africa events

Our two Imara Africa events were a complete success – filled with warmth, inspiring conversations, and people who support us in such a wonderful way. We are deeply grateful for these special afternoons.

Two afternoons of warmth, connection, and coming together.

Together, we explored Kenyan crafts, enjoyed homemade waffles and fresh punch, and shared inspiring thoughts on Africa, WASH, and the significance of clean water. We experienced firsthand how deeply the issue of water touches people’s hearts – and how many are willing to contribute. Your immense interest in Imara Africa, your openness, and your generous donations mean so much to us.
You make it possible for us to provide more and more people with access to clean water, step by step. Thank you for being part of this journey.
Together, we are creating sustainable change.

    "behind the scenes" video shooting

Our first Imara Africa video shoot

Sometimes things happen that deeply touch us and remind us why we started this journey.
Through our friend Anneke, who made the connection, something truly special became possible.
The talented and experienced video producer Clemens Sigel donated a video production for Imara Africa.

The shoot took place in a professional environment, and it was filled with warmth, joy, and a genuine passion for our project.

We are endlessly grateful for this incredible support!

“Kenya through my own eyes” – An evening that moved and connected us

For the first time, I had the opportunity to present “Kenya through my own eyes” to a selected audience - made up of close friends and family .I shared exclusive insights into the work of Imara Africa.

The evening took place as a true living room talk – personal, warm, and intimate. The audience was wonderfully diverse: from 10 to 86 years old, all generations were represented. And once again, it became clear that the issue of water touches us all – regardless of age, background, or continent. As we talked about Kenya, the people we met, and the challenges around access to clean water, a very special atmosphere emerged:
quiet moments, reflection, honest emotion – and a sense of hope.

Many guests were visibly moved, others inspired, and everyone left with something to think about. This evening showed us how important it is to tell stories, raise awareness, and take people along on our journey.
We are already looking forward to continuing our series of talks with a wider audience. We want to show even more people why Imara Africa was founded – and why clean water truly changes lives.

  • Projektreise Kenia

    project travel - Kenya

In October 2025, I spent four days in Kibarani, a community in eastern Kenya. I visited families, had conversations, spoke with women, young people, and teachers—and, above all, listened.

The purpose of the trip was to understand the real needs on the ground, build trust, and identify where our support can make the greatest difference.

I go to buy water 5 times a day.

These days showed me once again that real, sustainable change only happens when projects are developed together with the people they affect. This is excactly where the work of Imara Africa begins.

  • Vereinsgründung

    Association founding

In October 2025, we officially founded Imara Africa as an association in Austria. A true passion project that brings together people who want to support underprivileged communities in Africa.

We empower underprivileged communities across Africa through sustainable solutions in the areas of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

Because clean water, safe toilets, and proper hygiene are not a luxury. They are the foundation for health, education, growth, awareness, dignity, and real opportunities for the future.

We work locally, collaboratively, and sustainably—so that people don’t become dependent on aid, but can build their own strength.
So that they can make decisions independently.
So that the future becomes opportunity – not chance.

    Imara means: strong.
And this is exactly what we aim to make possible through our work.

We warmly invite everyone to become part of our growing community, to get involved, contribute, and help shape the future together with us.

Join us and become part of Imara Africa – together, we can achieve more!
