Imara Africa
Together for Lasting Change
Strength for Communities
IMARA means strength, resilience, and stability in Swahili.
The name stands for our vision of building strong and self-determined communities across Africa.

Our vision
Our vision is an Africa where every person has access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene – and the strength to live in good health and shape their own future.
Our mission
We strengthen marginalized communities through sustainable WASH solutions that promote health, education, awareness and resilience.
Our goal
Our goal is strong and resilient communities that are not dependent, but have the power to take responsibility and shape their own path.
Our focus
WASH is at the core of our work, because safe water is the foundation of a healthy, dignified and self-determined life.

What does WASH mean?
Imara Africa focuses on WASH – water, sanitation, and hygiene. These areas are inseparably connected and form the foundation for health, education, and dignity in the communities we support.
Safe access to clean water is a human right. Sustainable WASH services play a central role in the prevention of disease.

Clean water = Health
Clean water is the foundation of a healthy life and protects against diseases such as cholera. Children especially benefit from it, as they are the most vulnerable to waterborne diseases.

Sanitation = Dignity & Safety
Safe sanitation means protection, security, and dignity. Private toilets especially benefit women and girls. Functional sewage systems protect both people and the environment.

Hygiene = Protection
Hygiene means protection. Handwashing prevents infections before they occur. Through education and hygiene practices, infections are countered, strengthening people’s health in the long term.

Some words from Sabrina
Sometimes there are moments in life that change everything. For me, it was my time in Kenya, where I experienced firsthand what it means to live without access to clean water. I became aware of how unevenly resources are distributed — and at the same time, how much strength exists within African communities.
With Imara Africa, I want to support and make this strength visible. Our goal is not only to create infrastructure, but to develop sustainable solutions together with the local communities. It is about dignity, health, and self-determination.
Imara Africa is not just about aid — it is about sustainable transformation
